Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory

The Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory (Coastal Hyd Lab) is a leading research center specializing in coastal, port, and offshore structures engineering, with a strong focus on both numerical and experimental studies, and is a subsidiary of Tarbiat Modares University. Our laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art computer site and an advanced physical testing facility...

Research

Our primary research areas include advanced design methods for offshore structures like platforms, jetties, breakwaters, and protective installations; coastal engineering and the study of sea-shore interaction; port design and maritime transportation management; analysis of sea hydraulic and hydrodynamic conditions; numerical modeling of marine structural performance; experimental evaluation of marine structures' behavior; and safety and risk assessment for ports and maritime waterways.

Experiment

The Coastal Hyd Lab has also played a crucial role in drafting various national design codes, such as the National Design Code for Offshore Platforms, the National Design Code for Rubble Mound Breakwaters, and the Code for the Use of Stone Materials in Breakwaters and Port Structures. Additionally, our experts have actively contributed to the development and consultation of several other national guidelines related to coastal, port, and offshore engineering.

Design

Our team consists of highly skilled researchers, engineers, and technical experts with extensive experience in coastal and offshore engineering. Through collaboration with national and international institutions, we foster interdisciplinary research that addresses real-world challenges and enhances the resilience and sustainability of marine infrastructure.

Experimental Analysis of the Caisson Breakwater at Tonbak Port

This study focuses on the experimental analysis of the caisson breakwater at Tonbak Port, utilizing advanced physical modeling techniques. Through controlled laboratory tests, we evaluate the structural performance, wave interactions, and stability of the breakwater under various hydrodynamic conditions. The findings contribute to optimizing design parameters, enhancing resilience, and improving the overall effectiveness of coastal protection measures at the port.

Stone Code Studies for Coastal Structures

This research examines the application of stone materials in coastal structures, focusing on their durability, stability, and performance under marine environmental conditions. Through comprehensive studies, we assess material properties, structural behavior, and best practices for design and construction. The findings support the development of guidelines and standards to enhance the effectiveness and longevity of coastal protection systems.
